FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS If you cannot find your answer, contact us. Is the point replaceable?
The big advantage with our openers is they can be rebuilt. We manufacture our openers from high grade steel. This allows you to maintain the hard facing on the opener to extend its life. Often this work is done in the winter months by the grower therefore the cost to the grower is kept to a minimum.

How many acres will I get out of these openers? The answer depends on many factors such as the abrasiveness of your soil, the width of your seeder, the number of acres you seed in a season, the moisture content of the soil, and the mellowness (or lack of it) of the soil in the spring. Stones will also be a factor in the life of the openers. We hesitate to state a number for in some cases it will be too low while in others it will be too high. We rely instead, on our guarantee that says you have to be satisfied with the performance of the opener or you get your money back within the first year.
Yes. All the primary contact edges of our openers are covered with carbide. By the way, we were the FIRST to use carbide in opener production. We introduced this technology to the farm so that growers could enjoy the cost saving advantages of carbide.
The answer to this question depends so much on soil conditions and the opener in question. Since soil conditions vary from year to year, only a general answer is possible. Generally the draft on our openers is very close to our competitor's openers. Because of our vertical design, our openers disturb minimal amounts of soil, working with it, rather than against it.
How much fertilizer can I put down with this opener? The placement of fertilizer with the seed on the same shank is very dependent on many factors such as moisture conditions, the setting of the air system, the depth of seeding, the PH of the soil and the amount of organic matter in the soil. Usually the amount of N, as expressed in pounds per acre, is the only information many growers are looking for. We have many growers putting down 65 to 70 lbs. of actual N per acre, while others are only putting down 35 to 40 lbs. per acre with our dual shoot openers. In any event, careful leveling and calibration of your drill are necessary. As a producer, you remain responsible for application rates depending on the conditions in your area. As well, during seeding it is vitally necessary to continually check the separation between the seed and fertilizer by digging in the seed rows and observing the separation. This exercise must be carried out across the width of the drill or seeder. Our openers (side banding and paired row) will not achieve complete separation, there will be some mixing however, our field experience has shown us and many satisfied growers testify that the mixing which occurs has minimal affect on the seeding operation. It is impossible for us to give a hard and fast rule for this question. You have to exercise your best judgment at seeding time as to the amount of fertilizer you use.
